Persisting: New Year's Resolutions for Debate

By the Girls Debate Staff

Do you have a New Year’s resolution related to debate? Some of the Girls Debate staff shared theirs, and we’d love to hear about yours!

Arielle Trakhtenberg, 9th grade

To clear to elims even just once! (And learn the debate dropbox)

Lila Daoudi, 10th grade

I just want to get more on top of regularly doing practice rounds and speeches. I'm also working on this little K on the side that I really would like to finish up sometime soon.

Kai Do, 10th grade

For 2022, I would definitely try to be more confident (and less pessimistic) before heading my rfds. I also really want to cut an entire aff or cp at some point!!

Nilufer Mistry Sheasby, 10th grade

I’d love to break at the Harvard World’s tournament!

Nathalie Leung, 10th grade

- Master (to some extent) theory and phil, I don’t get the hype and personally prefer substance cause its more interesting but I have to accept that other people aren’t the same 😞

- Work on cap since its the main k I run :)

Jade Harris, 10th grade

I hope to help more novices with their rounds in 2022! It's something I always find exciting, and during the pandemic, it was really difficult to communicate with younger debaters that needed help, since everything was virtual. It was always so helpful to get advice from older debaters before a round or in general, and I hope to do the same for other debaters!

Joie Zhang, 12th grade

In the new year, I hope to spend more time mentoring novices and judging debate rounds. I look forward to helping out at the HW tournament over the MLK weekend! :)

Elizabeth Johnstone, 10th grade

My overall debate new year’s resolution is to finish off my first year in varsity strong! To put it less vaguely, I’d like to be more versatile and equally comfortable going for policy and critical arguments. I would also like to improve on my round strategy, starting with an effective CX. For the more social aspects, I would like to enjoy my first in-person LD tournament (whichever one that may be) with the team and spend more time getting to know the novices.
